Slacking it!

This week The lovely Catrin brought her Slackline to the club and we strung it up between 2 of the trees outside the hall. Much fun was had trying to walk, sit and lay on it. Both Cat and Vaughan have use the slackline for a while and can confidently walk along it's length and perform various moves on it, but the rest of use were pretty much utter beginners and boy did it show.

I've tightrope walked before but it in no way prepared me for this and the need for not only balance, but strong enough legs to stop the horizontal movement and tremors of the slackline. I managed to sit cross legged on and walk about half way across the line, but each time I tried to get from standing to sitting I just got such a leg wobble going on that I fell off. The funniest point of my time on the line was when I tried to lay on it. I had one hand behind my head holding the line, my back and bum on the line and then lifted each leg into position, but each time I did this I ended up with a quick twist happening and me hanging under the line for a few seconds before gravity got hold of me and planted me front long on the mat below. Daniel Mayers and I were laughing so hard I couldn't get up to my feet for a while. It was great fun... so much so I want to set up one in my garden so I can practice all week on it.

I also did some hooping and taught myself a couple of new transitions from vertical to horizontal and ways to get the hoop off my body via my legs rather than over my head. I find it easiest to do this just by putting some music I love on the player then dancing about and playing with the hoop as I do. I've found lots of moves this way. I also managed to do some quick reverse foot stalls of the hoop whist it is going around my knees, which means I can stop the hoop going clockwise, push it anti clockwise and then instantly kick it back clockwise. A bit hard to explain exactly in text what it looks like, but I was so excited I did a little happy dance to celebrate. I'm looking forward to next week because I want to try out another move that I have in my head from a dream. I'm not entirely sure the move is physically possible but I'll give it a go hehehe. By Thursday I'm hoping I've got rid of the flu I've caught and will be able to play with it and figure it out.

Roll on Thursday!
