Halloween Party

This week is Halloween party time. That means it is a free week, but we do hope you will be able to bring a plate so we can have a pot luck buffet. We will be playing some silly games and if you bring glow toys we can have a bit of a play in the dark too. There will be 2 competitions you can join in with if you wish. There sill be a fancy dress catwalk strut. The winner to be voted on by all the party attendants. There is no theme, so you can dress up as whatever you like, spooky, funny silly, anything goes. 

We are also going to have a competition for the best circus prop(s) made out of fruit or vegetables. Get your thinking caps on and go and get yourself some veg to turn into a clown wig or carve a working unicycle out of a giant potato.

Get to the hall by 7pm, so we have lots of time to play. I look forward to seeing you all there!

Yippee! Another Clowning Workshop

Are you coming to this weeks clowning workshop? Pete will be taking us through some more confidence building games and improvisational play to improve our ability to interact with audiences and build on our clowning skills. I can highly recommend this workshop, so get to the club by 8pm so that you don't miss out on all the fun.

In other workshop news, there has been a change to the 10th October workshop. Instead of a hoop workshop there will be a beginners unicycle workshop, for all of you wishing to become mobile on one wheel. Glen and Cath will be running it.

We also have a stilt workshop scheduled for the 24th October. Dave will be teaching people how to temporally safely elongate their legs to become significantly taller than they are. Dave will be helped by some glamorous assistants who will endeavour to keep you safe and stop you from falling over.

For both of these new workshops it would be best if you wear shoes, trainers or boots. If, like me, you are someone that wears flip flops or sandals most of the time, you will need to remember to dig out some foot covering shoes for these dates. The hoop workshop that had been scheduled for the 10th will be happening at the beginning of November.

At the End of October we will be having a Halloween Party. There will be a fancy dress catwalk strut, so if you want to participate in that you might want to start making/finding your costume now.  We will also have a contest for the best circus prop(s) made out of fruit or vegetables (Note to self :- Remember to bring a tarp for people to stand on whilst demonstrating these props on). As it is a party night there will be no fee for attending, but if you could bring a pot luck plate so we can have a buffet, that would be great.

Latest News

For those of you that weren't at the club meeting last night, here is an update on the meeting we held.

Firstly we decided that we would be starting up the workshops again. We have taken a bit of a break over the summer, but they will be back for the Autumn and Winter. If you have a skill you would like to teach or have a skill that you would like to learn, please let one of the committee members know and we will try to arrange something in the coming weeks. We already have an offer of a clowning workshop with Pete, poi and hoop workshops with Lynne, devilstick with Stephen, beginners contact ball with Andy, Card tricks with Daniel M, beginner unicycle with Glen & Cath, and Stilts with Dave & Cath.

We also chatted about how we wanted to celebrate Christmas and Halloween. No decisions were made about Christmas, but those that attended last night have chosen to have a party at the hall with games and bring a plate of food for Halloween. Instead of pumpkin carving competitions, it was suggested that we have a competition to see who could come up with the most inventive vegetable/fruit based circus prop. We will play silly games, such as apple bobbing, and have a best costume fashion strut and if anyone fancies doing a routine for us we'd be happy to watch.

Some of you might have noticed I posted a list on our Facebook Page of lots of circus events that are going on in the UK. You, like I, might have noticed that there are a couple of months on the list that have nothing going on, and I asked the group if they would like to work on setting up an event of our own. People thought it was a good idea. We decided that starting small with a one day event would be best. We also chatted about where we should hold the event and despite wanting to set it up in Pontardawe, we came to the conclusion that if we wanted to draw in people from further afield, such as Bristol, we needed to be somewhere with good transport links, so it is probably going to be best if we organise it in Swansea. I'm envisioning it to be something like the Bath Upchuck, of a day full of workshops and games late in the afternoon, followed by a show in the evening, but we are open to ideas and plan to discuss this again soon, so that we can get working on making it happen. This IS going to take quite a bit of effort and work to make this happen, so think we will have to set up an events organising group. If you would like to volunteer to be part of that group let me know.

Planning for the Halloween Party

As some of you already know, on 27th October the club will be having a Halloween Party, with games, bring a plate and optional fancy dress. The planning of this party has been handed over to Daniel M, so if you have any questions or ideas for things you would like to happen at the party please contact him.

Ideas already put forward are:-

• Fancy dress contest
• Pumpkin carving competition
• Apple bobbing
• Doughnut on a string eating (with blindfolds)
• Decorating the hall
• Reverse Trick or treating of the housed in the road, that put up with noise from the hall all year
  
• a renegade show

I'm sure there were more suggestions, but my fuzzy brain can't think of them, so if you have put forward other suggestions please put them in the comments here and I will add them to the list. If you have ideas you'd like to discuss before putting them forward as suggestions you can do that on the forum thread about this topic.

Party time

Halloween is creeping up on us at some speed, so after a little chat at last weeks meeting it was agreed we would have a party on Thursday 27th October 2011 and that it would be optional fancy dress, so if you feel like dressing up as a zombie, monster, ghoul or anything else really we look forward to seeing your costumes. We also decided we would play some games, but as yet which games haven't been decided on, so if you want to play something in particular make sure you either tell one of the committee or post it in the Forum thread, then we can sort it out in advance. It will be bring a plate as usual, so everyone gets a bit to eat.

I think it would be nice too if we have a pumpkin carving competition. You can usually get hold of large pumpkins at supermarkets closer to the time, so if you'd like to join in, start working on your designs, ready to transfer them to your pumpkins when the time comes. If you have any more ideas on what we should be doing, let us know.

Halloween meet

So we are coming close to all hallows eve, Samhain, Calan Gaeaf, all saints day, Halloween (call it what you will) and it's time to celebrate the years harvest, take stock of the summers achievements, ward of evil spirits and celebrate the spirits of the good that have passed. We will be having a party 28th October 7pm - 10pm at the Alltwen Community Centre of glow toy spinning, games, fire, and food & drink. It is open house to new members, as usual, so if you are a regular that has a friend that is uming and ahing about maybe joining, encourage them along. If you are a member that hasn't been in a while we'd love to see you! All you need to bring, is yourself, a plate of food for a pot luck supper (a cake, crisps, snacks, nuts, sandwiches... anything you like), your glow toys, a costume if you feel like dressing up and a big smiling face. As it is a celebration, where all the members provide the food and drinks, there will be no £2 charge.
