It's a very rainy day here today so practice was done inside with the 32" hoops. I'm very limited in space, so I worked mainly on core moves. I spent a lot of time practising breaks with the smaller hoop as I have found that when I was doing constant breaks (i.e. not allowing a rotation of the hoop between breaks) I was losing control of the plan of the hoop. It was flipping up or down. I think it's due to them being lighter, so I needed to adjust how much power I used to stop and push it back the other way. I also worked on bringing the hoop up from my knees in the anti-clockwise spin. This being my less favoured direction I've been struggling with these smaller hoops to get it to rise. I am getting better though and think I just have to feel the hoop rhythm more and stop allowing my muscle memory, which is programmed to the larger 36" hoops, from doing it's thing.
I worked a bit on the body rolling again as well as cats eyes, which still refuse to work for me, and I'm realising that despite my brain totally understands what I need to be doing it is having problems relaying that information correctly to my limbs. I have the same problems with poi spinning when I'm going through myalgic encephalomyelitis relapses. With practice it should get better.
To finish off, after my 30 minutes of practising, I got one of my large workshop hoops (approx 42 inch diameter 25mm tube hoop) to do a cool down and a bit of meditation. I just let it roll slowly around my waist whilst thinking about all the blessings I have in my life. It felt great!
