Boys Can Hoop
For all those people that have told me "But hoopings for girls, not boys." Well here is video evidence that proves that's not true. The very talented Nick Broyd knocks that belief out of the ballpark.
Time to get your wiggle on boys!

Hoop Manipulation
All I can say to this is WOW and command you to watch this. If it doesn't make you smile and want to build a platform on a pole to try it, then I ask you "What would make you want to build a platform on a pole?"

Hoop Monkey's play time.
There are some really fantastic combinations of moves in this video of the Hoop Monkey AKA Adam Amis. You might have to watch it a few times to catch them all as they melt into one another seamlessly.
Again I say, "See, all you men that keep telling me hooping is for girls, you couldn't be more wrong!"

Can you fold a hoop?
Continuing my hoop theme that has seemed to be appear this week (probably because I'm layed up and unable to hoop myself) I want to share with you another very inspiring hooper for me, the oh so dedicated and talented Ann Humphreys. In this video she demonstrates some beautiful tracing, folding and plane changes.
If you thought hooping was only about spinning it around your waist, think again.

When Sharna Rose just plays...
... fantastic things happen. Sharna Rose is so at one with her hoop that if it strays a little of it's intended path she coaxes it into doing something new and amazing. I guess what I learn from this is to take every error and turn it into a something positive.
Break down everything you do, and everything you learn and then take those tiny parts and mix them up to make something new.

Bring who you are into what you do.
Baxter is a well know person in the hooping world and I believe the reason for that is because he brings something different to hooping and is very eloquent in expressing himself both through his hooping and his words. Now everyone that hoops will show a little of themselves whilst they hoop, but people like Baxter really do give all of themselves to the experience of hooping and who they are just radiates out of them in their movements and flow.
If you give wholeheartedly to what you are doing, whatever prop you choose to express yourself with, it is inevitable that others will want to follow you and emulate you. If you seek to be someone that others emulate you probably putting more of your heart into being popular than into what you do, so will never capture peoples imagination.

Hoop Classes in November
I've been running hoop classes at the Circadian Fitness Dance Studio in Swansea for a few weeks now and the lovely Dawn (owner) has offered me a new 1 1/2 hour slot on a Wednesday evening at 6pm - 7.30 pm which means I can set up another beginners Class starting on the 16th November. It will be a 4 week course costing £37 per person. There are only 10 spaces on the course, so book now if you want a place.
The classes will start from the very beginning, with basic waist hooping and will work it's way through on and off body moves with the hoop, including arm, leg and foot hooping. Each member of the class will be encouraged to move at their own pace on their hooping path, so if you excel you will be shown more moves to try and if you are struggling you will be helped to move forward at your own rate.
Hooping is a great way to get fit & flexible and a fantastic way to make friends whilst have fun. Any time I take my hoops out to the park I get chatting to someone or other who wants to try out hooping. Everyone that passes smiles too. There is something magical about hoops that makes people happy. Add to that, you can burn between 400-600 calories an hour if you really wiggle a lot and you have the perfect form of exercise.
I hope to see some of you there.

Polypro Hoops - A whole new world of hooping
Recently I have been playing with Polypro hoops to see how they feel to work with and I have to say I'm hooked! They are light weight, responsive and they have a strange cushioning effect when you do breaks and reversals. They are also great for hand, neck, foot and arm hooping because the lightness of them. I have been struggling with the MDPE hoops because due to ill health I have been bruising very easily, the Polypro hoops have helped so much with this issue. I rarely bruise myself now. The backs of my hands no longer look black and blue after a short session for practising poi hoop moves. The only down side of these hoops is the fact they are light weight and responsive... "HUH?" I hear you all saying "aren't they their good points?". Yes they are, but being responsive means they react to everything you do and if you move slightly incorrectly the hoop will go exactly where you send it even if that's not really where you want it to be and because they are so light weight you must be sure to keep moving your body or they drop very quickly. These reasons mean you need to learn hone your movement and get them very precise, which is good, but it does feel a little like you are learning to hoop all over again.
All in all, I'd say I'm converted. I will probably never go back to MDPE hoops, unless hooping in high wind on a top of a mountain, because these hoops have allowed me to hoop for longer, with less pain and are training me to be a better hooper. I love them!
